We will be leaving for New York for a couple of weeks to celebrate the 2011/2012 holiday season, shortly. I’ll try to post pictures (maybe a short Vimeo Video) of Time Square during 2012 New Years Eve Celebration (Lady Gaga is scheduled to be there and I expect a young crowd there: http://www.timessquarenyc.org/events...ule/index.aspx), but it will be late for most of you, who will see your New Year come in before we do.

We’ve been to New York together once before, but it wasn’t during the holiday season. The girlfriend seems to think this US city is the nicest she has ever visited and one of the reasons why we are returning. We’ll see what her opinion is after she feels that cold weather. If it does snow during our stay, it will be the first time I will see/feel snow.

While in New York we plan on seeing two plays (Book of Mormon, and Spiderman) and attending one concert (Gov’t Mule) besides visiting Time Square New Years Eve, visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art (again), Statue of Liberty (just the island, because I think it is closed for a year for some inside renovations), Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial and spending more time in the park (trying to teach the girlfriend to ice skate). We might also try to get to Little Italy and China Town for some good food.

I will usually add a part about how you or your spouse/girlfriend can get a visa to visit the places we go in my travel threads, but all I can say this time is good luck. As I understand it’s not easy getting a visa to visit the states.

I will do another cost breakdown at the end of the thread, without show tickets, air travel and apartment rental costs because they could vary depending on the season/year.

I will also be posting a short video of each set of pictures in each post so the viewer can view the pictures I post without having to log into Subzero.

A video that might help with your holiday spirit,....

You'll love it for about the first 30 minutes, then realize it's a good thing it's taken you this long to see/feel snow.

Just the thought of getting on that ferry during the winter, with the icy wind blowing through it brings a chill to my bones.

Have you thought of renting a car/taking the train and buzzing up/down to Boston/Atlantic City/Philadephia? All of the destinations are just a couple of hours away by either mode of transport.

I went there in November and it was fucking brass monkeys then. Only really felt pissed off by it when I went outside for a cigarette due to the smoking ban. The rest of the time was spent in one of the 20 or so bars we spent 4 days in before packing in all the sightseeing stuff over one very hungover day.

How does a good old Florida boy become and ice skating coach?

Looking forward to it as usual.

I am not looking forward to the cold weather. It is 1 degree Celsius now and forecast to be 7 when we arrive (oh so much warmer).

We’ll see what the weather is like when we do plan to visit the Statue. Maybe a car trip will be better. Thanks for the advice! The girlfriend has been corresponding with a friend of hers who lives in NY and has told the girlfriend to bring everything warm she owns cause it’s freezing.

Cattie corner to the Miami Jai-Alai on 36th street there used to be the Polar Palace (near our old neighborhood) that us kids use to visit as often as our parents would let us. It was fun for us kids, not so much for anyone else who was visiting the (ice skating) rink at the time.

We arrived in New York last night and the weather was wonderful,…maybe 53 degrees. It was a beautiful day today so we ventured out to visit the Statue, Ellis Island and made a short visit to Zuccotti Park. It’s nice to be back in the states.

    Some pictures,........

Hudson River (aka US Airways Runway 23)

    Statue of Liberty

    Ellis Island

    Zuccotti Park (OWS)

a short video of the pictures I posted above,.........

NYC is still getting over the trauma of 9/11, I don't think inflicting my two little terrorists on them will help.
